Welcome to Celebrating Dance!

Based in the beautiful seaside town of Torquay, Celebrating Dance is one of the UK's longest running and biggest Bellydance Festivals!

And we are excited to announce we are BACK after a  2 year pandemic hiatus! Are you ready to join us? Because we are ready to get our belly dance belts back on and SHIMMY!

What to expect this year!

This year we will be celebrating the 20th Celebrating Dance Festival!

YESS!! 20th!!

And for the first time ever the festival will be hosted by Anna ArabellaZara Dance and Sandra of Zara's Zouk

They have arranged, especially for you, an amazing line up of international and national teachers who you do not want to miss,

Including: Yalia of Vienna, and Reda Troupe Dancer, Ahmed Tito, coming all the way from Egypt

There will be a Festival Participants Show on Friday night. You can apply to perform here…….

And, a Saturday night Gala Show!  And yes we will all be going to the "Old Skool Disco", a long standing festival tradition that sounds crazy, but is sooo much fun, come along to find out more!

History

Anna & Zara have both been part of the Celebrating Dance family for many years and will be preserving the things which make the festival unique.

As the new hosts we would like to say that, It is such a privilege to be asked to host the 20th Celebrating Dance Festival and we are so grateful to the hosts and dancers who preceded us and appreciate all their dedication to Celebrating Dance Festival.

Afra al Kahira started the festival in 2001 shortly after she and her husband, John, moved to North Devon. Afra soon realized that there was a growing dance community which had very little access to quality workshops from top teachers. So, she decided to rectify the matter and Celebrating Dance was born!

In 2016, after 16 wonderful years, Afra and John handed over the running of the festival to Nikki LivermoreNikki brought her passion for live Egyptian music and drumming and grew the variety of teachers and workshops on offer. Live drumming is something we hope to continue. This year we will be hosting Syrian Drummer Sallam to get us all dancing to the beat.

A little more about the hosts

Anna and Zara created ‘Online Zoom Hafla’ to support Cairo Artists during the pandemic.  They have produced 16 events so far and supported over 75 Source artists!  They are so excited to bring the energy & ethos from Cairo live and in person to Celebrating Dance Festival for the first time this year.

We will be introducing some new elements, like a free flow timetable, so there is no need to book your workshops in advance.  But, really the heartbeat of the festival is a shared love of Middle Eastern Dance, making new friends, and catching up with established ones.  Come alone or in a group, there is something for everyone!
